Cookies and analytics

This site uses Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how visitors use it — which pages get read, roughly how many people visit, and so on. It sets cookies to do that.

We don't turn this on until you say it's okay. The banner shown on your first visit lets you Accept or Reject on equal footing; if you reject, no analytics cookies are set and no data is sent to Google. You can change your mind at any time via Cookie preferences in the footer of any page.

Google Analytics doesn't collect your name, email, or anything else that identifies you personally, and IP addresses aren't stored against your data. We don't use it for advertising or retargeting, and we don't sell or share this data with anyone beyond Google's role in providing the analytics service itself.

The chat assistant

The chat widget sends what you type to Anthropic's Claude API to generate a reply, grounded only in this site's own published content. TVC doesn't store your chat messages — the function that relays them to Anthropic is stateless and keeps nothing after it responds. Anthropic's own handling of API requests is governed by their privacy policy.

Friends of TVC signup

If you submit the "Join Friends of TVC" form on the Contact page, we collect your name and phone number. This is used only to add you to the "Friends of TVC" WhatsApp group by hand — it isn't used for anything else, and isn't shared beyond that.

Visit and event inquiries

The inquiry forms on the Camping, Day Visit, and Trekking Trails pages, and the Host an Event page, collect your name, email, and the details of your inquiry (phone, dates, headcount, message are optional or context-dependent). This is used only to get back to you about your booking or event — it isn't used for marketing and isn't shared beyond our own team.

Event interest

On past event pages, clicking "Want this to happen again?" records an anonymous count with no personal data. If you optionally add your email to be notified, that email is stored so we can follow up if the event happens again, and isn't used for anything else.

Other services this site talks to

A few pages load content directly from third parties, each governed by that party's own privacy practices rather than ours:

• The Biodiversity page fetches live sightings from the public iNaturalist API.
• Photos on In Pictures load from Cloudflare R2 (media.tvc.farm), TVC's own photo storage.
• Some pages embed Google Maps/My Maps for directions, or YouTube for video.

Your choices

You can reject analytics cookies outright, or accept and later withdraw consent — both take effect immediately via the cookie banner or the Cookie preferences link in the footer. Declining doesn't affect your ability to use any part of the site.
